Coaching that changes how a leader operates — not just what they know
Most leaders don’t fail on technical skill. They stall on the harder things: reading a room, holding a hard conversation, aligning a team that doesn’t yet agree. h3 Strategies coaches leaders through exactly those moments with assessment-grounded insight, structured accountability, and measurable outcomes.
What leadership coaching is
A structured, one-on-one development partnership built around a leader’s specific goals, strengths, and challenges. Through validated assessments, focused coaching sessions, and real-world application, leaders sharpen self-awareness, decision-making, and communication, turning that into results their teams and the organization can feel.
Our approach: Insight, Action, Results
- Insight — We start with validated assessment and stakeholder feedback to map strengths, blind spots, and the highest-leverage areas for growth.
- Action — A tailored coaching plan with clear goals, structured sessions, and real accountability between them.
- Results — Measurable gains in leadership effectiveness, tracked against the goals set at the outset.
Where we go deep: leadership in transition
Any competent coach can help a stable leader get better. The harder work is coaching leaders through change: a new role, a merger, a consolidation, a team that has to be rebuilt mid-flight. That’s where h3 has spent the most time, particularly in higher education, and mission driven organizations where shared governance and collective efforts means a leader has to move an organization they don’t fully control.
If you’re navigating an institutional transition or consolidation, see our higher education practice.
Who it’s for
- Executives and senior leaders navigating high-stakes decisions, board dynamics, or organizational change.
- Mid-level managers stepping into broader scope and accountability.
- Emerging leaders building the judgment and presence their next role demands.
- Co-leadership teams who need to operate as one — not two leaders sharing a title.

Working with my coach was invaluable because of how incredibly practical their approach was. Rather than focusing on abstract theories, we tackled real leadership challenges, celebrated wins, and worked directly through the complex situations I was actively navigating.
FAQs
How long does an engagement last?
Most individual engagements run six months, with sessions every other week. We adjust the timeline and cadence to the leader’s goals and the pace of what they’re navigating.
Can this work for a team, not just an individual?
Yes. Alongside one-on-one coaching, we run team-based leadership workshops for groups of up to 15 — useful for co-leadership pairs and leadership teams that need to align.
What assessments do you use?
Primarily the EQ-i 2.0, which measures emotional intelligence across 15 areas, with optional 360-degree feedback for a fuller picture. Everything DiSC is available as a facilitation tool when behavioral-style work is part of the engagement.
What are your coaches’ qualifications?
Our coaches hold the PCC credential from the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and have coached leaders at every level for more than two decades. Both principals are certified in the EQ-i 2.0 and Everything DiSC, with backgrounds in strategic communication and organizational leadership.
Are sessions virtual?
Yes — all coaching is conducted virtually over secure video, giving leaders flexibility regardless of location while keeping the space confidential and focused.
How is coaching different from leadership training?
Training teaches general skills to a group. Coaching is personalized to one leader’s specific goals, strengths, and situation — applied to the real decisions in front of them, not hypotheticals.
What kind of return should we expect?
Leadership development is an investment, and we treat it that way. We set measurable goals at the outset and track against them. The return shows up in immediate outcomes — better decisions, stronger teams — and in a more resilient leadership bench that holds up under pressure.
